This notice explains how personal data is handled when you visit jsolary.com or subscribe to receive a story or updates.
Who is responsible
The data controller for this website and the J. Solary mailing list is J. Solary. Privacy requests can be sent to contact@jsolary.com.
Website hosting and security
The site is delivered through Cloudflare. As part of providing, securing and operating the website, Cloudflare may process technical information such as IP addresses and request/log data. This processing is used for website delivery, security, abuse prevention and reliability. The legal basis is the controller’s legitimate interest in operating and protecting the website.
Analytics
J. Solary uses Umami Cloud to understand aggregate website use, including page views, referrers, device/browser information, approximate location and custom events such as story-reading progress and link clicks. The J. Solary implementation does not intentionally send names, email addresses or other directly identifying information to Umami. Umami’s standard tracking is cookie-free and anonymises analytics data. Analytics is used to understand which stories and discovery channels work and to improve the site.
Email and story delivery
If you enter your email address to receive a story or J. Solary updates, the address and subscription information are processed through Kit (formerly ConvertKit). Kit may also process technical subscription information such as IP address, date/time, source and email interaction data. The legal basis for sending ongoing J. Solary email is your consent. You can withdraw that consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in an email or by contacting J. Solary.
Subscriber data is kept while you remain subscribed and as needed afterwards to honour an unsubscribe or deletion request and meet applicable legal obligations. J. Solary does not sell subscriber data.
International processing
Cloudflare, Kit and Umami may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, providers state that they use recognised transfer mechanisms such as the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses.
Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct or erase personal data, restrict or object to processing, receive portable data, and withdraw consent. To exercise a right, email contact@jsolary.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data-protection authority.
Cookies
J. Solary does not currently use advertising or behavioural-tracking cookies. The current Umami analytics implementation is cookie-free. If the site later introduces technology that requires consent, this notice and the site’s consent controls will be updated before that technology is used.
